He was one of the most prominent military leaders in the Syrian regime.. Talal Makhlouf surrenders his weapons

Major General Talal Makhlouf, who was Commander of the Republican Guard and Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Army, made a settlement with the Syrian Transitional Government and handed over the military weapons he possessed.

According to the Syrian Observatory, Makhlouf conducted the settlement in an official government center and handed over the weapons he owned.

Makhlouf said in a statement: “The Commission dealt with us with great respect and kindness, and this indicates that they are thinking according to the logic of the state. This logic made me feel safe,” noting that “previously, we felt that there was a major flaw.”

He pointed out that “now, with the frankness and kindness in dealing with us, we feel that we are children of the country, and this is our country, and he excelled in it,” addressing his fellow officers, saying: “There is no need to be afraid, as long as one is not afraid of anything he has done, he must serve his country, and this is a natural matter and a delusion.” They work as a state.”

It is noteworthy that Makhlouf was one of the most prominent military leaders in the Syrian regime, as he headed the “105 Republican Guard” Brigade, which was considered one of the prominent offensive brigades that participated in suppressing the protests in 2011, as he had a pivotal role in the military operations that targeted demonstrators in areas Such as Douma and Harasta in the Damascus countryside, as well as in Nawa in Daraa Governorate.

During the battles that took place in Damascus, it was announced that a number of senior officers in the regime were arrested, and Makhlouf was among them.

It is noteworthy that in 2019, the United States and the European Union imposed sanctions on members of the Makhlouf family, due to accusations related to smuggling money abroad.
