US President Joe Biden, on Tuesday, asked his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to maintain “peace and stability” in the Taiwan Strait.

The White House stated that Biden “stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the rule of law and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.”

He added, “Biden stressed that the United States will continue to take the necessary measures to prevent advanced American technology from being used to harm our national security.”

Biden held virtual discussions with the Chinese President that focused on a number of files, including trade issues, Taiwan, artificial intelligence, the Middle East, Ukraine, and enhancing communication between the two countries to manage competition and avoid conflict, according to a White House statement.
