The town of Qirdahah in Lattakia Governorate, the birthplace of the ousted Syrian President Bashar al -Assad, witnessed, today, Wednesday, with widespread protests, interspersed with clashes with the security forces, which have deployed dozens of its elements and vehicles in the city.

Local sources and activists reported that the security forces arrested dozens of protesters in the city, while reports were reported that casualties and injuries were injured.

In addition, the “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” said that “tension escalated in Qirdaha today, after an attempt by elements of the Military Operations Department to seize the house of a former officer in the regime forces near the Al -Qirdaha’s automatic oven, after the arrest of about 10 young men from the city of Qirdaha and took them towards the naval.”

He added in a statement: “Elements of the Military Operations Department tried to seize a house in order to install a military point (barrier), which resulted in random shooting by the elements that resulted in the injury of 3 citizens, one of whom was critical, and the events accompanied sectarian slogans by some people.”

According to the observatory, the incident followed the gathering of dozens of citizens near the city’s public security police station, demanding the release of the people who were arrested, amid a state of congestion and fears of the escalation of confrontations, and the military operations department responded by shooting in the air and bringing in large military reinforcements to the city amid a state of panic among the residents.

For his part, the Director of the Public Security Department in Lattakia Governorate, Lt. Col. Mustafa Kanifati, said that “in the context of our continuous efforts to control the security of the region and maintain the safety and property of the people in Lattakia Governorate, our security units installed a barrier in the Qirdaha area.”

He added in a statement published by the Ministry of Interior via “Facebook” that “groups affected by the imposition of security tried to prevent the barrier and attack it, stir chaos and attack the city police station, where we are currently working to take the necessary measures to ensure security and stability.”
