The Minister of Agriculture confirmed the protection of the production of local potatoes in Akkar


The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, received, in his office, a member of the “Development and Liberation” bloc, MP Dr. Ashraf Baydoun.

He also received a delegation of potato farmers from various Lebanese regions, along with a delegation of potato importers, in the presence of the Director General of the Ministry, Eng. Louis Lahoud, the Ministry’s work team, and representatives of agricultural unions.

During the meeting, the mechanisms for importing potatoes were discussed from Egypt.

The Minister of Agriculture stressed “the commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture to protect local production, especially potatoes in the Akkar region,” stressing “the depth of trade relations and friendship that brings Lebanon together in Egypt.”

In this context, Hani contacted the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, and it was agreed to enhance agricultural cooperation between the two countries, and confirm that the import of potatoes from Egypt will be limited to 30 thousand tons of food potatoes intended for food, in addition to the quantities allocated to the industry, provided that this is done before March 15, in a move aimed at protecting the Lebanese product designated for local consumption, especially in the Akkar region.
