Postponing elections cannot happen except by law

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, believed that “the issue of displaced Syrians is very serious and a quick solution must be found for it, and all the Lebanese are united on this issue, which neither Lebanon nor any country in the world can bear.”

Mawlawi said from Bkerke: “The Syrian issue needs a return plan and a time frame, and from today until that happens, the laws must be implemented.”

Regarding the municipal elections, Mawlawi stressed that “the issue of postponing the municipal and optional elections has not been resolved yet, and postponement cannot happen except by law, and the ministry is obligated to hold the elections and implement the current law.”

He continued: “The ministry will start tomorrow, Friday, in the first stage of calling for electoral bodies, and the first governorate will be in Mount Lebanon.”

He announced, “We have developed a security plan during the upcoming holidays to preserve the security of the Lebanese.”
